C1760 Steel Hilt Spadroon £550

A rather special spadroon in the manner of the British heavy cavalry clamshell style, the sword is an infantry officers piece with a rather interesting set of characteristics.

For a start this double clamshell guard is usually more common on the later 1796 heavy cavalry sword but was inspired by swords of this type, the grip is silver plate and silver wire and the blade is marked with what I believe to be the owners initials, "WL".

These swords are overwhelmingly British with many being Scottish but they also pop up in Europe with a few pieces from the Russians in the Royal Collection given as gifts.

The sword has an infantry length spadroon blade, the guard is blackened creating a wonderful contrast of black and silver. This sword can be yours for £550 or best offer.
