Here we have a rather spectacular Ethiopian Saif dating to likely the first groups of imports to Ethiopia during the reign of Tewodoros II, these swords were imported as part of the Emperor's centralisation and modernisation project for the military and civil authorities.
There being an irony here as these swords were first used in the wars against the tribal Ethiopian nobility who opposed the modernisation.
The sword has a multi part horn grip with an imported German or French steel blade that shows signs of sharpening. This sword has its original pommel, quite rare as many were ripped off and replaced as the pommels are Continental silver.
This sword can be yours for £455 or best offer.
