A cross hilt sword, of the type sometimes called a pillow sword, with a silver on iron hilt and a broad double-edged steel blade.
The moment I saw this I picked it up because I recognised its hilt, most of these examples on the market today date from the mid 17th century, this example with the exact same cross guard is in the Hermitage museum and is dated to 1611, there is one in the Wallace Collection belonging to Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales who died in 1612.
Lastly and most importantly there is an example in the Royal Armouries that confirms the maker, Robert South, a member of the Worshipful Company of Cutlers and the maker of Curtana, the coronation sword of the United Kingdom and one of the Crown Jewels.
Thie piece can be yours for £1800 or best offer.
