A Wootz Steel Chilanum



These daggers, the Indian Chilanum are rare and interesting blades depicted often in Indo-Persian art. It is a graceful and well crafted piece that has a story to tell. Whilst this dagger has signs of age it does not hide the fact it was an exceptional piece in its day, a well formed hilt with the typical globular centerpiece grip, the curved chiseled finials and a beautifully fullered wootz steel blade. The dagger dates to the end of the 17th century and follows the style of this period more than the earlier 16th century chilanum's.
