19th Cent Indian Dhal Shield £200




An Indo-Persian Dhal shield, the shield is steel with white metal or silver inlay.


This shield dates to the late 19th century, these silver inlaid shields are either ceremonial items for parade or temple use, potentially these could have been made my Indian armourers in the British Raj for display or export too.


The inlay depicts a parade of Indo-Persian soldiers with a procession of elephants.


On the rear of the shield there is the original padding and pair of handles. The shield is in good condition, the inside has been painted black for rust prevention. There is a section of wire left from the previous owner to be used for displaying the shield.
