A rare East India Company naval sword dating from between 1845 and 1858. This sword is in great condition for its age seeing as it is a fighting sword from one of British India's most tumultous times with the EIC dealing with rebellion, piracy, warlords as well as policing actions against other European powers. An 1827 pattern with a fullered blade follows the general rules you would expect to see with a royal navy sword except with the EIC Lion bearing the crown on the cartouche. The fullered blade has either been polished clean or made unetched, I think no etchings is more likely a many officers buying fighting swords would forgo the decortation. The scabbard is a period replacement. This sword can be yours for £500 best offer.
