1821 Pattern ISD Marked Wilkinson

This sword is an interesting piece as it was purchased from Wilkinson Sword as an artillery officers 1821 Pattern with a best proved blade by a Captain of the Household Battalion on 25 October 1917.

The purchaser was Major (then a Captain) Isaac Granville Winch. It is unclear who the intended officer was as there is no record on the receipt or etching on the blade. The blade is marked to the India Stores Department and has a WO (for the War Office) so potentially it was gifted to the ISD by Granville Winch or it may have been given by an officer of the British Indian Army to the garrison.

With the incredible emphasis of the thistle design in the etching I suspect the original owner was a proud Scot.

The sword has had an amateur restoration by a previous owner with a replacement suede and braid grip and a modern hex nut, the blade however is in great condition. This sword is accordingly priced at £220 or best offer.
