A stunning example of a silver-hilted spadroon of rather large proportions, presumably for use with a padded glove. The blade has a diamond cross-section and is unadorned making this a very interesting juxtaposition of an incredibly high-end hilt and a very workmanlike but finessed blade.
The silver hallmarks date the piece to 1812 and was manufactured by Francis Thurkle. Not only the hilt fittings are made of silver but the wire wrap is also silver. Condition wise there is some putting to the last few inches of the tip of the blade. This piece can be yours for £885 or best offer.
