A large Italian rapier of the Crab Claw type, most commonly used in Northern Italy, Southern Germany and Venice these pieces tend to date from the 17th century.
Most of these I have handled or owned have been marked to Passau or Caino. There is some scalloped decoration to the crab claw guard and engraved mirrored details to the sail guard. This piece has a Passau wolf marked blade which despite some darkening with age is in very good condition. There is a small section of damage where the guard is married to the pommel and the grip is missing its wire wrap with a bare wood spiral grip, only retaining its turks heads which in my opinion is preferable to a victorian replacement wrap.
This sword can be yours for £3200 or best offer.
