A rare example of a rapier style firanghi from the early to mid 1600's, with trade growing between Asia and Europe there came the desire for the exotic and rare with many Indian warriors with the means to source one using foreign blades, partly for their rare nature but also because of a guaranteed minimum level of quality found in the trade forges of Germany, England and Italy. This piece is a Yali (Southern Indian mythical beast) head bronze hilt in the style commonly seen in swords of the weapons of the noble or higher echelons of the warrior classes of South India and it has been paired with a rapier blade likely made in Northern Italy based on the thick ricasso, sadly the makers mark is obscured by the long langets. This blade has not just been attached by the standard glue but has been pinned also.
This piece can be yours for £1150 or best offer.
