This sabre is of the 1796 style with the canted shamshir style blade and the near slanted grip of the type carried by many flank or Rifle officers. These swords were carried as a good combat alternative to those who were not enamoured by the straight-bladed spadroons. This sword is in as found condition and this is reflected in the price. The grip is missing its organic cover and the metalwork has a dark even patina with salt and pepper pitting. A potential piece for a light restoration or a pleasant "been there" display piece.
